The sex toy industry has more than tripled since 2017 and is expected to grow by 13% year-over-year by 2025. Global online adult toy store sales are estimated at more than $55 billion. As a result, more and more people are looking for ways to feel good and improve their sexual wellness.
We wanted to create a brand that would center the love you have for yourself, and your partner, at the heart of this new adult toy brand. The goal was to create a refined-yet-friendly, empowering approach that elevates intimacy, self-expression, sexual health, and overall well-being. We wanted to focus on the high quality of these products and tie them in to larger wellness trends that are only growing year over year.
The etymology of the word Familiar is from the mid-14c., and meant "intimate, very friendly, on a family footing," from Old French famelier "related; friendly," from Latin familiaris "domestic, private, belonging to a family.” The word also used to mean a being that “assists with magic and divination.” Not to mention the word we use today, meaning, “in close friendship; intimate.” We love it when a brand name can be so well-aligned with the products and their uses!
